Eye Misalignment?

Eye misalignment is a common vision complication where your eyes cannot work together to create and maintain a clear and single image of an object. An optometrist will recommend Neurolens as the best treatment for binocular vision disorder. We provide eye exams and eye care at Broadway Eye Clinic, serving Salt Lake City, UT. Here's a breakdown of Neurolens for misalignment of the eyes.

What Is Neurolens?

Neurolens are breakthrough prescription lenses that utilize contoured prism to bring relief to strained eyes.  Although many prescription lenses have prisms, Neurolens are the first to use contoured prisms. This allows for micro prism to be prescribed, which is much smaller and much more effective than traditional straight prism.

Type of Misalignment

There are three primary types of misalignment of the eyes, determined by the direction of the eyes. They are:

  • Esotropia/Esophoria - where one or both eyes turn inwards
  • Exotropia/Esophoria - where one or both eyes deviate outwards
  • Hypertropia/Hyperphoria - where the eyes are misaligned vertically

How Does Neurolens Correct Misalignment?

Each eye is held in its correctly aligned position by six surrounding muscles.  Misalignment results from weakening one or more of the six muscles surrounding each eye or a weakening in the cranial nerve innervating the muscle.  At a more severe posture, this condition is called strabismus, but in most cases of binocular vision disorder, this misalignment is very slight.   With prolonged use of near visual tasks (for example, using our computer, phone or tablets) this small misalignment commonly causes eye strain, neck and shoulder muscle tension and headaches.

The contoured prisms in Neurolens prescription lenses compensate for misalignment of the eyes, eliminating blurry uncomfortable vision and allowing you to see one clear and single image from both eyes. By rectifying the misalignment, these groundbreaking prescription lenses relieve eye strain, shoulder pain, headaches, and shoulder pain.

The contoured prisms are tailored to each patient's vision needs to account for the misalignment at various distances, close and near. Remember that an eye doctor will need to examine your eyes with a Neurolens measurement device to determine the extent of the misalignment and determine how your Neurolens prescription lenses will be individualized.
